As a team, we’ve quietly accomplished a couple of remarkable goals in the last couple of years:  In the fall of 2023, we earned accreditation by the Tree Care Industry Association (TCIA), an 87 year-old trade organization that sets standards for arboriculture nationally.  We are one of eight TCIA-accredited companies in the state, and one of just two that are locally-owned.  We are also proud to have six International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) Certified Arborists on our sales team and field crews.  The attainment and maintenance of these credentials are part of our ongoing commitment to provide exceptional tree care services to our clients and communities.

By earning TCIA accreditation, we’ve joined ‘the best of the best’ arboriculture companies nationwide; our clients can now have even more confidence in our assessments, recommendations and work. TCIA accreditation is voluntary and requires that we meet or exceed industry standards for customer service, best business practices, formal employee training, safety, insurance coverage, and ultimately reliable and ethical tree care.  Accreditation requirements are reviewed annually and fully audited every three years.

TCIA accreditation is both a culmination of Teacher’s Tree Service’s 20-year history and a framework for how we will continue to serve our clients in the future.  We used the TCIA accreditation as a guide to consolidate what we’ve always done well, learn and grow, and chart a path forward for how we will continue to meet our clients needs in the future.  To learn more about our journey through TCIA accreditation, read the article ‘Education is Key at Teacher’s Tree Service’ published by TCI Magazine in May 2024.

With six ISA Certified Arborists currently on our staff, we are a strong team of professionals committed to bringing science-based knowledge and practical expertise in tree care to our clients and communities in Vermont.  Our team members who have earned this credential are recognized by the arboricultural community as having a professional understanding of tree biology, diagnosis, maintenance practices, and arboriculture safety.  The ISA Certified Arborist® credential is voluntary and requires that an individual have an experience/education base, pass an assessment of knowledge, and continue their arboriculture education throughout their career.

As a company, Teacher’s Tree Service supports and rewards individuals on our team who earn professional credentials.  Our on-staff ISA Certified Arborists have the experience and expertise to assess trees as dynamic living organisms, evaluate individual tree health, value and risk in context, and help our clients make the best decisions for their trees and outdoor spaces.  Our clients and team benefit from the ongoing learning that ISA Certified Arborists bring back and apply to the jobs that we do every day.

The Teacher’s Tree Service team is proud to bring the latest science and best practices in arboriculture to Vermont.  We will continue to grow in knowledge and expertise as individuals and a team, while delivering the exceptional tree care services that our clients expect.

From the classroom to the trees

Greg Ranallo has been working with trees since he was 19 years old — a passion that began long before it became a profession. After earning a master's degree in education and teaching high school social studies in his native Minnesota, Greg ultimately followed the calling he'd had since boyhood and built Teacher's Tree Service into one of the Champlain Valley's most trusted arboriculture companies. As he puts it, "I was always more a tree guy who was teaching than a teacher who did tree work."
